Concentrate Technology

Ship less water. Move more chemistry.

Hawthorne develops high-strength concentrate systems that help brands reduce freight, storage, handling and export cost while improving supply chain efficiency.

Designed for modern chemical supply.

Many liquid cleaning products are largely water. That may be practical for end users, but for export, wholesale and bulk supply it can create unnecessary cost.

Concentrate technology allows brands to move more active chemistry in less volume, then dilute closer to the point of packing, distribution or use.

Traditional Supply

Ready-to-use liquid

Higher volume, more pallets, more storage, higher freight exposure and reduced container efficiency.

→

Concentrate Supply

Higher-strength chemistry

Lower shipped volume, improved warehouse efficiency, better landed cost and more flexible supply.

5x

One litre can make five litres of finished product.

10x

Higher-strength systems for efficient bulk and export supply.

Less

Reduced freight, storage, handling and shipped water.

What is concentrate technology?

Concentrate technology is the development of stronger chemical formulations designed to be diluted before final use or before finished product packing.

A good concentrate is not simply a stronger version of an existing product. It must be designed to remain stable, dilute cleanly, perform consistently and remain practical to manufacture, transport and handle.

Lower Freight

Move more active chemistry per pallet and reduce the cost of transporting unnecessary water.

Less Storage

Hold compact, high-value chemical stock while retaining the ability to produce larger finished volumes.

Export Ready

Improve landed cost by shipping concentrate and diluting closer to the target market.

Scalable Supply

Support multiple territories, distributors or production sites from a leaner supply model.

The Commercial Advantage

Stop paying to move unnecessary water.

Water is essential to the final product, but it does not always need to be transported across countries, stored in warehouses or shipped internationally.

By concentrating the active chemistry, brands can improve the value of every pallet, reduce container space, lower handling cost and improve finished litre economics.

How concentrate systems improve supply

01

Concentrate

Active chemistry is developed into a stable, higher-strength formulation.

02

Ship

Less total liquid volume is moved, improving pallet and container efficiency.

03

Dilute

The product is diluted closer to the market, factory or end-use point.

04

Supply

Finished product is packed, distributed or used with improved economics.

Where concentrates work best

Concentrate systems are ideal where volume, freight, storage or export efficiency are major commercial factors.

Automotive snow foams

Pre-washes and TFRs

All-purpose cleaners

Export and freight savings

For export, concentrate technology can make the difference between a product being commercially viable or too expensive to land competitively.

Sea freight, duties, container utilisation, local handling, warehousing and onward distribution all affect landed cost. Reducing shipped volume can improve the economics of each finished litre.

Ready-to-use model

Large finished volume shipped from one site.

  • Higher pallet count
  • More storage space
  • More transport exposure
  • Lower value per shipped litre

Concentrate model

Higher-strength chemistry shipped efficiently.

  • Reduced shipped volume
  • Improved container usage
  • Lower warehouse footprint
  • Better finished litre economics

Technical considerations

Developing a concentrate is more complex than increasing ingredient percentages. As concentration increases, formulation behaviour changes and additional technical challenges can appear.

Hawthorne considers viscosity, pH, solubility, foam, dilution accuracy, fragrance stability, preservation, packaging compatibility, hazard classification and manufacturing practicality.

Stability

The concentrate must remain consistent during storage, transport and dilution.

Dilution

The product must dilute cleanly and reliably at the required ratio.

Performance

The finished product must still deliver the intended cleaning result after dilution.

Handling

The system must be practical and safe to manufacture, transport and use.

Designed For Scale

Built for manufacturing, not just the laboratory.

Hawthorne develops concentrate systems with commercial manufacturing in mind. Products must not only perform in testing, but also mix consistently in production, remain stable during transport and dilute accurately at the point of use.

Concentrate Technology FAQs

Can every product be concentrated?

No. Some products are well suited to concentrate technology while others may be limited by stability, safety, viscosity or raw material behaviour.

What concentration ratios are available?

The correct ratio depends on the product and application. Many systems are developed at 5x or 10x, although other ratios may also be suitable.

Can concentrates reduce export costs?

Yes. By transporting less finished volume, concentrate systems can improve container utilisation, reduce freight costs and lower landed cost per finished litre.

Can Hawthorne manufacture concentrate products?

Yes. Hawthorne supports formulation, concentrate manufacturing, bulk supply and private label production depending on customer requirements.

Looking to reduce freight and improve supply efficiency?

Hawthorne develops concentrate systems that help brands reduce transport costs, improve storage efficiency and create more scalable chemical supply chains.
